When I moved into my home nine years ago, I had pretty much…nothing. Just a dream and a box full of stuff from my college apartment. Over the years, I’ve furnished my place not only with the things I need(ed), but also personalized it with accessories that best reflect Stephanie. Being a woman of faith , I’d always heard about ‘prayer closets’ but I didn’t think the prayer closet was a literal thing. I didn’t think it needed to be. I figure(d) you can pray wherever without assigning prayer to a ‘closet’ in one’s home. Prayer closet? Cute churchy catch-phrase. Not real.
About a year and a half ago, after crisis upon crisis–I changed my mind. I’d prayed (and still pray) at my bedside, in the shower, in the car, etc.–but my life was such a deconstructed puzzle, I knew I needed somewhere to sit, think, cry, journal, sing and pray without distraction. I’d actually seen a blog post about a young woman’s prayer corner, and I decided to do the same for myself–only I went a little further. I had a whooooole lotta issues, so I figured I needed a whoooole lotta space. I re-purposed a spare bedroom into a full-out prayer room.
So here’s my Prayer Room …in progress. I have had use of it for more than a year, but I still haven’t finished it. As you can see, there are several frames that need hanging and I want to replace quite a few items. I found most of the fairly inexpensive prints on Etsy and TJ Maxx, and the frames are a mix of Ikea and take-home freebies from work.
The prints really are just images that make me happy. They don’t hold meaning other than being girlie things I love. And that’s enough for me.
And check out this amazing Beyonce Super Bowl hand-painted art from a fellow Hampton University alum Nikkolas Smith. His Art is amazing and I cannot wait to find a frame for this print and hang it. It inspires me so much, not just because it’s Beyonce and she’s the queen of tackling a goals to-do list, but because Nikkolas’ pursuit of his own goals is refreshing and his vivid artistry gives me life!
Amazing, right?
The rug is also TJ Maxx and the chair and ottoman combo were a steal from American Signature Furniture. The doggies are my own GiGi (pink collar and always mentioned first bc she was my first puppy baby) and NiNo (blue collar and a hot handful) and they wouldn’t let me capture this room without their cameos.
Oddly, neither GiGi or NiNo spend much time in here. They prob don’t like how I emote when I’m in this space, which is sorta funny. I, myself, don’t spend as much time as I could in here–but it’s my sacred space and the only room in the house with a NO television, NO mirrors, and NO electronics rule that I always honor.
My bookshelf holds 1,000 different devotionals that I have purchased and been gifted over the years. I haven’t read them all and then there a few I can’t keep my nose out of–specifically Jesus Calling, the ultimate devotion of all time, if you ask me. I don’t dig the lamp and so that will have to be replaced soon.
Lord, I promise you this dog thinks I live with her.
This is the quietest corner of the room. Those throw pillows get a ton of use, but I’d like to see this corner house a mirrored dresser of some sort. Anyhow, I look forward to adding to this room and keeping you guys updated with the changes. Until then, check out the links below.

OMG the doggies are sooooo cute! Also, did that chair only come in one color?
LOL, they are cute, thank you…and yet, still a handful! The cuteness seems to wear off in those moments. And no, unfortunately–only gray… at least to my knowledge 🙂
This is awesome and so inspiring…thank you for sharing!
Thank you Andretta! I am so glad you enjoyed it!
